Is this real or fake?

6 years 6 months ago #545285 by Nancy Hait
I was reading this article about perception that Photographytalk just published  www.photographytalk.com/photography-arti...nce-your-photography

If you scroll down mid way you'll see a little girl and a baby pig.  Is that pig real?  I've never seen a pig sit like that if it is!

So cute.

Good article on perception.  Got some good ideas from it too.  I remember the Canon video from the top too.  Funny how we all see something when you are thinking one thing.

Well if it's real, it's one well behaved pig!

Pigs are intelligent and can be trained like dogs to sit, and do tricks. I'm not saying its real, just don't be surprised....

Why so serious?

My sister has a small farm and she raises pigs, these animals are very intelligent!  So I'm going to say this is a real live animal in the photo.

Remember Green Acres, and Arnold the pig?
I think it is the lighting on the little guy that gives it that artificial look. Or the processing.

I got the 411 on this one.  So I called up Sew Trendy, and the photo in the attached article with the pig is a prop.

They did have a real pig on location, but apparently he was on a coffee break, warming up from the cold when the above shot was taken.

Here is a photo with the real pig taken by Karen from Belly Beautiful.

Make: Canon
Model: Canon EOS 5D Mark III
Lens: EF24-70mm f/2.8L II USM
ISO: 400
Aperture: f/2.8
Shutter speed: 1/400 sec

Where are the legs? pigs feet?? I thought it looked like ceramic, it's flat on the bottom.

Once it got mentioned I couldn't help but start noticing what else doesn't seem quite real. In some the background lighting and shadows don't seem to match the subject. Not sure if lights were set up on the subjects outdoors (like the girls on the stone wall with shadows behind the legs) or if the subject or background was 'shopped in or heavily edited - like the first one with light coming from the right/above where you can see an edge line.

I also ended up looking at policies. There is compensation for photographers given as a discount on merchandise but I don't see info. on contracting or licensing usage of images. I hope photographers read that and get a contract with specific usage with a timeframe.

It looks real to me. There are just lots of surprising things happening around us. The photos are great by the way.
