Anyone happen to know if this Gorilla Pod will hold this camera and still function as a Gorilla pod safely?

I have one and it may hold my D7100 with a light lens, like my 50 f/1.8, in some situations. However, it came with a crummy ball head attached and that's the major issue with me. You get what you pay for, I don't think you want that for your 5D M3, especially with the glass you want for that body....
My  $.02....

Why so serious?

You can't just say "Gorilla Pod" as they have a number of models, each intended for different gear. You're going to need to be more specific.

I have what is now named the 3K; paid $50 through Adorama. It works great with my D750 and modest lens. Haven't tried with my 70-200, but I'm sure it would do the trick. I have no trouble getting the ball head to tighten down.

I have a friend who has one and I've gotten to use it a couple occasions, it's nice, and it's convenient.  I'm pretty sure Santa got my hints and this is the one that I have under the tree this year:  www.amazon.com/GorillaPod-Flexible-Ballh...+pod+for+dslr+camera

Can you mount a normal ball head on one of these?

Probably; the Joby ball head is removable. Not sure why you'd want to, given the price of the entire system and its quality.

I think it was stated there is more than one model, so it depends. The one I have needs one, but even it it could be swapped out it would not be a good balance....

The problem I have with these, is that their legs get weak after time and don't hold much of anything up.  I've had one, it was awesome for first few months, but then one leg started to give and it just went down hill from there.
