How are you dealing with the weight of a 70-200mm during long shoots?

Every time I go out and shoot a wedding, my go to lens is my trusty 70-200mm.  The downside is that this lens is a heavy beast and I'm sore at the end of the day.

What are you doing to prevent this downside?

Maybe you need a monopod? Or some weight training....

Why so serious?

I agree....maybe some weight training.

I see a lot of posts along the same vein....this or that lens is too heavy.

I guess I just don't get this. I've shot for hours in model shoots or wildlife shoots with my 70-200 2.8 II or my 100-400 II and never had any thought with regard to weight. And please know, I'm no big, burly guy. I'm 6 feet and weigh about 170.

So I guess if this is truly a problem then you need to address it by using a tri or mono pod, or buy lighter gear. Or....and I'm not trying to be insulting, start exercising more. It may not be so much the weight as it is your stamina.

+1 on the monopod.  They are lightweight, some have little legs on bottom for added stability and they are very mobile.

Monopod for the shot term.  You can get a 15lb dumb bell at Target or Walmart for $20 or so.  Start exercising.

Yep, a monopod for you.
Make sure its a carbon fibre one or you may be adding to the problem.

:agree:  so true.  I had a Manfrotto aluminum monopod a few years back and that thing surprisingly had some weight too it!

If still problem, try Nikon 18-200mm.  Much lighter lens.
