Do you bring your camera to events you attend?

6 years 4 weeks ago #572957 by James F
Weddings, BBQ's, family events?

I swear, every time I attend something like this as a guest, people always asking me for photos.  To take their photo, etc.  In order to fly under the radar, you are almost forced to be one of those iPhone photographers so people don't take your seriously.

I learned that I cannot both attend an event and shoot an event. So, no, I don’t bring equipment. Just “forget” to bring your camera.

Same here, leave it home.  Enjoy the day out without the heavier gear.

I take my gear everywhere, and I have no issues with telling friends and family I will NOT "take any pictures", especially if a professional has been hired, like for a wedding.
They all believe me now.

Why so serious?

Leave it home!  Don't give anyone reason to approach.

Made that mistake once, and never again.  I'll bring my small Sony with me, that's about it.

I can't help to chuckle on this one.  Just 2 weeks ago, my wife and I attended a family function, and it wasn't much more than an hour into it before someone asked where my camera was?  Lucky for me, I don't bring my gear with me for this exact reason!

If they don't bury you in "that's a professional camera, does it take good photos?" questions, you need to dodge the requests to take photos. So, best to just leave your camera home.

Oh no, just my iPhone.   Even when I attend a baby shower these days, I'll still get someone that will ask "Hey Brenda, do you have your camera with you?".

If I leave it home, I'm not in the position where I have to lie (if it's in my car)!

LOL

Answers here are all about the same.  That's because we all learned the hard way with this one!

BTW, in case my response isn't clear.  No for me too.

Never, that's just saying, 'look at me, I'll help with the photos'.

OK, maybe not exactly that, but you get the point.
