Getting sharp image when manually focusing?

6 years 2 weeks ago #574810 by Adam G
There are circumstances when I need to turn off auto focus and go manual.  However not all my shots are sharp and focused.  Kind of hard when things are moving quick (darker situations (example: bicycle race in am prior to sun up)).  Macro shots.

What is the trick to getting sharp images  most of the time.

You know what, I just had a delayed thought, perhaps live view.  However live view always seems a little delayed.

Please share how you are doing it.  Thanks!

Live view isn't too great for action shots, but I like it for macro (static) and landscape photography. Between LV and just using one's eyes, I'm unaware of any tricks....

:agree:   live view is going to work best for static shots.  For those action shots, your best bet is establish a rough distance to where the subject will be passing, set your focus distances to that and fire away.

For the action shots, use a smaller aperture (more DoF) to compensate for any error. Not much other choice; the camera needs light to focus.

Here's another method, I've had moderate success in the past on some moving subjects....(Skiers most recently)

Effron, as soon as I opened up that page.  I got buried with popups, then browser crashed.

I saw this was regarding Trap Focus,

Here is a good clip on that topic

Odd, I just opened it again, a few times actually and no popups or crashing....I also run an ad blocker, so that may be it.....
