How far is Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon?

6 years 1 week ago #576407 by Kay Baker
I'm thinking about doing a Norway or Iceland trip this year and looking at photos from -
iceland-photo-tours.com/photos-of-jokulsarlon-glacier-lagoon/

Do you happen to know how far this spot is from where you can park your car?  I'm trying to look at the time I'll be there, which location will offer the most photographic opportunities with out crazy hikes.

Looks like you can park your car and walk right up to the water/ice really close.

First shot is the main road, scale is 2000 feet per inch on the map:

This one shows how close you are from where you park to the water:

Oh I didn't think about using Google street view.  Thank you.

Well the plus side is that you really get up close.  I'm wondering if the photos on that tour page are taken from shore of from one of those boats?  The ice in that screen shot looks kind of dirty.  Unless the photographer Photoshopped it all white?

I'm betting the tour companies photos are taken from a boat.  That ice near the parking lot is pretty dirty.  Beautiful location though.

Even the aerial shots on Google maps looks amazing.  When is the best time of the year to photograph this area?

:agree:  Get as north as you can, but be prepared that not every night you will see the lights.

What's fun about Google street view, is that you can walk around in other areas of the world from the comfort of your couch!

There are roads that go around most of the island and boat charter companies that will bring you out in the bays for reasonable price.

One thing to keep in mind, most of these sort of tours charter people around in big vans and get you on location with minimal efforts.   And from my experience, if there is serious hikes, they'll let you know ahead of time.

The problem with Iceland is lodging.  If you don't book far enough in advance, you'll have a tough time getting good lodging.

Keep that in mind, you might want to book well in advance.
