How to protect camera and lens from beach elements?

5 years 11 months ago #579042 by Victor.E
I have a 4 day photo shoot coming up and it's on a beach of all places.  I'm just trying to figure out best course of action to keep the sand out of my gear from harming it. I know it's going to be windy and this will be tough.  I'm bringing a large trash bag for changing out my lenses.  But what about when your just out in the elements, all that sand flying around getting into every crack and whole on the camera.

Should I use compressed air on the outside of the camera before swapping lenses?

Compressed air may acceptable to some, but you'd stand a better chance of blowing debris farther into the gear, I'd avoid that and use a soft brush. Other than using common sense there isn't much more you can do. Too windy for me, I put my gear away.....

I was told to never use compressed air.   I would just have a small brush to brush off your camera.

Below, is what I do for shooting in the rain, maybe a similar set up would be better than nothing....Just trash bags, or those that dry cleaners use and a couple rubber bands.....

Make: NIKON CORPORATION
Model: NIKON D800
Lens: 16.0-35.0 mm f/4.0
ISO: 400
Aperture: f/8.0
Shutter speed: 1/20 sec

Plastic bag is going to be your best bet.

I always have plastic bags with me.  They are the cheapest and frankly the best protection against dusty conditions and unexpected rain.

Pretty sure my tripod has sand from Aruba still in it from 5 years ago.

You've had the same tripod for five years? ...Maybe I should stop using mine as a jack stand?

I live in Hawaii, and constantly shooting at the beach, unless you are swapping out your glass on the beach, nothing to worry about.
