Professional photographers with visible tattoos?

5 years 11 months ago #581096 by MYoung
Turns out my sisters is getting some traction with her photography and has decided that she wants to start building experience with shooting engagements and weddings and newborns.  The only thing we have concerns about is that she has a number of visible tattoo's.

I was telling her, she should be fine, photography is an artistic profession.  She isn't so sure.

Do you have any visible tattoos?

Not me. Some people will have issues, some won't....It also depends on what they say if anything.

Why so serious?

I do. One so far, more on the way. But I'm old enough to not care.

A lot also depends upon where you live. I think acceptance/attitude is somewhat regional still. Where I live it seems like tattoos are a requirement for working in certain establishments.

And +1 on Effron's comment above.

Mine are concealed with a long sleeve shirt so no issues here.  Personally I have met with clients when I was wearing a short sleeve polo shirt and nothing was said.  Most will just look at my tattoo and continue discussions.  Some might even ask about it, more from a conversational standpoint.

Again never any issues.

Canon 7D, 15-85mm, 18-55mm, 70-200mm, 100mm Macro, Sigma 120-300mm, Speedlite 430EX II

Don't have any, so no issue for me.  On topic, people with tattoo's don't bother me.  It's pretty much normal these days

I have one and it's not visible.  Actually its faded, so you don't even notice it much anyway.  However on the topic of tattoos and professionalism, I think they are much more acceptable today than 15 years ago.

Got one on my chest, so obviously you don't see it.

I've hired people with visible tattoo's.  No big deal.

Both arms, above the elbow, and both forearms, underneath...

Nobody's ever said anything....

I've been thinking about getting one for a long time.  Haven't pulled the trigger on it yet.  My sister who is a newborn and maternity photographer has both arms and one on both of her legs.  She is very 'artsy' type.  She does very well with her business.  I don't think her clients care that she has tattoos.

Let's see your tattoos.

I have over 10 (lost count) and 3 are visible - ankle, inner lower right arm, and shoulder. And I dress appropriately when I work for clients.

If I wear a short sleeve shirt, then my inner arm tattoo shows. It has never been a problem and I would never try to hide it.

It would be very strange if you're dressed appropriately and a client tells you to hide your tattoo, imo...

I know plenty of photographers who have art on them.  No big deal these days.
