Have thrown a old camera away in the garbage?

Cameras are like books to me.   Something that shouldn't be tossed in the trash, regardless what condition they are in.  So in my garage on have boxes of old cameras I've had from the years.  So out of curiosity, what are you doing with your old cameras?  Are you keeping them, tossing them or did you find something to do with them?  Or better yet, storing them in boxes like me?

Do you still your old film cameras?

I haven't collected cameras over the years, being relatively late to photography. However, my last camera got sold, and I inherited a Pentax film camera over 10 years ago that just suits in the case. I should put it on eBay.

They're tools, and if I don't use 'em, they're gone.

I have kept all my filmers (except one) and they'll be back on display when I take the unlazy pill and build another showcase. My digitals usually get recycled, the D700 is the one exception.

Why so serious?

I no longer use film.  All of those cameras were sold.  The only camera I have discarded is my Nikon D80 which stopped working.  Repair would cost twice the value of the camera so out it went.

G'day mate

15 yrs ago when I went from film to digital, I gave my 2- K-mount bodies plus 4 lenses from 24mm to 1000mm + accessories to the local year-11, 12 student college photography students to use for their art-photography course work

Since then, all digital cameras that were still working when they were replaced have been given away to beginners. I say 'still working' as my 1st digital was a fuji superzoom, and after 90,000 frames over 5 yrs or thereabouts the on-off switch failed, to end of that story

SInce then when a camera reaches the 5yr mark, it's replaced and the older one given away

I'll usually sell them before they get to the point of giving away.

Usually sell them off, give them away or I know I have a few packed in some boxes somewhere.

I actually have some shelfs that I bought last year to stack my old camera gear on.  I think I'll dig them out this weekend and get them set up.

Try to get them to a someone who will appreciate them as much as I once did. A lot of my cameras were hard earned – feels wrong just throwing them in the trash.
