Photographing nudes

2 years 10 months ago #589290 by Adam S
I've shot some nude sessions recently and while it's fun and frankly as I see it, clothing styles will come and go, skin doesn't go out of style.

The only concern I have, or question, is if I could be positioning myself in a unmarketable corner.  Aside from some magazines, what sort of market is there for nude photography?

AKA... one day could I make some decent money at this?

G'day Adam

You ask "one day could I make some decent money at this? " ... from my perspective the short answer is 'no'
The world we live in is so overwhelmed with naked & half-naked females that I seriously doubt you could make a living with something 'unusual like this'

However, there are 'togs who specialise in nude & budoir photography, and that is perhaps a better area to contemplate. It will not be your primary income stream -like a wedding 'tog maybe - but it is quite possible that you could be comfortable with it as an extra to something else

One suggestion here is to chase up from the library some books on the "female form" and see what others are doing / have done and perhaps contact these 'togs to ask for more advice

ps- the current 'me-too' campaign also shows up how important it is to treat your models with 110% dignity at all times. With the Aussie 'togs I know who do nude stuff, they all have female assistants in the studio at all times and only the female assistant touches the model - if needed - at any time

Hope this helps

:agree:   Pretty much my thoughts as well.  Good advice there.

If I were planning to launch a career, photography wouldn't be involved in it.

Think about it, how many places do you see nude anything that isn't top shelf in a magazine store, behind closed doors or special event?

It's just to small of a market compared to other areas that are more mainstream - weddings, portraits, etc.
