It's soooo tough getting out and finding "MY TIME" with my camera.

Always work work work.

I miss just getting out and enjoying my photography.  :(

I miss having free time to spend on my personal time with my camera vs working all the time.

:(

How are you balancing work vs free YOU time?

I have adopted a pre-retirement plan where I manage no
more than a few clients a week. True, in the last six years,
I have had only a few private clients and concentrated on
corporate and publishing clients. Some of which I will still
work with later on… hard to give up lifetime of habits, old
friends and professional partners.

At less than two miles from my studio and residence is a
marsh with plenty of wildlife. When I get a itchy finger, or
just to relax, I like to go there to supply the publisher's club
with all year-round takes of the fauna and flora. I love it!

Light is free… capturing it is not!

Saturday at 30 minutes prior to sunrise and 1 hour there after, I schedule each week as my time as you call it.  My wife knows this and my schedule knows this.  No exceptions of changes.

How often are you getting out and just having 'you time'?

I have this crazy idea that if I go say for a walk, I'd better
take a camera along; so I'm rarely — read never — seen
empty handed… I just can't be without one!

Two or three times a week, I go image hunting with photo
clubs (I like that!) the other days I find excuses to go alone.

I will very purposely pick times where people are going in
(storms, early or late hours even at night) as it leaves more
free space for me!

I'm retired and don't shoot much more than when I was still working.
Maybe you need to unplug and just go?

Why so serious?

NikonShooter you said pre retirement but you sound like you're already there! or getting close. lol Effron you have a point, I don't know that I do any more or less, it's always depended on what else was going on in life. If I was involved in something else I may have done less photography but never stopped enjoying it just maybe did more or less.

This may come down to you needing to decide Dana if you want to keep doing photography as income (I never did) or if you want to find some other type of work and let photography be a hobby or part time (which I did). These days I do art photography and do whatever the heck I want with it! Because I don't do it as a job or income. It's probably the same with a lot of things besides photography.

Do you have calendar that you use to schedule your time?  Simply block off time for yourself.  That's what I do.  If it's not on the calendar, it doesn't happen.

I always have my camera with me.  That way, it's easy to squeeze in 10 minutes here and 10 minutes there.
