Liability question when SD card corrupted with client photos on it?

5 years 9 months ago #592618 by Tony Bisson
Just wondering as I wait for clients photos to download from my SD card.  What happens if the card becomes corrupted prior to getting your clients photos from it?  Are you liable or is SanDisk (SD card manufacture)?

You are.

You need a clause in your contract that indemnifies you from data loss. And you need a camera that writes to two cards in parallel. And a lot of spare cards in your pocket.

Just sayin'.

Yup, and you should be shooting two card cameras now, and for work, back up setting.

Why so serious?

I did have a very rare corrupted file but not a card!

Parallel write is the solution!

Light is free… capturing it is not!

Knock on wood.  No issues here.

However as already pointed out, you are responsible.

Be prepared, head out with spare cards, and BACKUP your work.

:agree:    Been there myself, however at the time, the camera I was using didn't have 2 slots.

You mean to tell me if there is a manufacture defect, or something goes wrong with the memory card outside of your controll, you are still liable?

Canon 5D Mark II | Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM | Canon 35L | Sigma 85 1.4 | Helios 44M-6 58mm(M42) | Zeiss 50mm 1.4 (C/Y) | Canon 135L | (2) 430EX II

Um, yes?

Did you read this thread? All of it?

Your contract with your client should contain a clause indemnifying you from events outside of your control. This would be an example of such an event. You do whatever you can to plan for, and avoid, problems, then you have a contract that kicks in for everything else.

Ok, well I'm glad I posted this question!

Thanks for all the feedback and 411!

I need to make some changes.
