Was asked by friend to borrow my camera. What are you guys saying?

I'm new to photography as many of you know.  I've managed to get some good photos, and one of my friends pointed that out.  But also at the same time, asked if he could try out my camera this weekend.

What are you guys saying in these situations?

So let me get this straight; you’re a new photographer, so I’m assuming you also bought your very first camera, possibly new. Now your friend wants to borrow it? This seems like an inappropriate request on your friend’s part. I could understand maybe letting him come out with you and trying the camera out with your supervision etc, however, I would never ask a friend, in your situation, to borrow their camera.

This has nothing to do with the gear but all to do with the friend.

If the friend is an honest, trustworthy and mature person, then it
is still possible he may have a bad luck… how will he cope with an
eventual back luck?

I will exchange gear with knowledgeable and experienced friends, with the understanding of "you break it, you buy it". Mostly, that applies to me borrowing stuff from others.

For those that have no experience, the answer would be, "no, I don't loan out my equipment." A reasonable person would not have a problem with that, and would not push back.

No....A good friend would never ask.

Why so serious?

No.
I'd be using it that day.

Agreed. If I knew a very experienced friend needed it for something important or big, it wouldn’t be out of the question, with the same stipulations; you break it, you buy it. The circumstance would most likely never come up for me, as I know of only two people in my life that are experienced, but they have a lot of gear and back up cameras.

Not trying to be rude, however I don't lend out my camera gear.

It's okay to say "no".

It's okay to state a preference.

It's okay to not explain your reasoning. You don't have to explain your answer.

It is absolutely not rude to give someone an answer they may not like.

And this applies to pretty much anything, not just borrowing camera equipment.

Cool, I'm not alone in my resistance to give out my camera.  I get it, it's just a object, but still.

Speaking of letting people use your camera, will you let a family member use your gear?

I don't lend out anything, hammer, mower, or camera gear.  Nothing.

This topic comes up from time to time. And the tone is usually the same. Most you’ll see will not lend out there camera gear.
