Anything wrong with buying used lenses?

I don't think so, it won't stop me from buying used.

Was the guy carrying around a Leica with his nose up in the air?

Hmmm  Sorry had a laugh at this one.  There is just some bad advice out there.  Most of my glass was purchased used and zero issues as  well.

Good lord no.  I have bought many used lenses over the years.  Nothing wrong if you buys smart.

Why do people get worried about what others think?  If it works for you, buy it.  That's my 2 cents on this.

Canon 5D Mark II | Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM | Canon 35L | Sigma 85 1.4 | Helios 44M-6 58mm(M42) | Zeiss 50mm 1.4 (C/Y) | Canon 135L | (2) 430EX II

I think this thread was more about assessing the veracity of that person's assertion. Which has been judged to be flawed.

I'll buy what is best priced and I need.  If you know the history or have enough warranty or buying used from reputable dealer, nothing wrong at all with this.

If this was a rouge statement with no reason given, then this person like Gary and others implied is an idiot. There are situations when you MIGHT not want to buy a used lens, however they are more circumstantial:

1.  Buying and person selling lens doesn't have proof of purchase and you suspect the lens might be stolen.
2. The lens looks questionable, and seeing there will be no warranty, you buy as-is
3.  If you buy from private party, there is no warranty.  However many used retailers have 6 month warranties.

Honestly I can't think of many other scenarios, well actually there are many.  But you get the point.  Be smart and like most of us here, buy used when you can get a quality product, safe a few bucks with out compromising quality.
