Dropped my 24-70mm f/2.8-Repair Options?

5 years 6 months ago #610219 by Evan Westwood
Well this isn't how I pictured starting the day.  Last night on the way home, I removed my 24-70mm from my camera to put a 70-200mm on the camera to try to fire off a shot or two of some deer I saw in a field.  I placed my 24-70mm on my passenger seat of my truck and it must have rolled over to the passenger side door during some point of my drive home after that.  I feel like a dum dum as I always put my gear back in the camera bag.  Which was sitting inches from where I put the lens down!

This morning, I go to open up the passenger door to get my camera bag and can you guess what came rolling out and hit the concrete floor in my garage?  @#$#@%

The zoom ring seems to be jammed up and the filter ring on the front is dented in.  The glass seems to be fine, and the focus feels way off.

It's out of warranty, so I'm going to looking at best price options here.

Can you help me out please?

Thank you.

There's not much to discuss. Send it to an authorized service center and hope for the best.

Ouch, that's unfortunate.  Sorry to hear.  As Gary pointed out, not much you can do except bring it in for service.  Nikon should quote you for free, however if I were to guess, I would bet your cost will end up around $500 to $700 for repair.

I think OP Might be asking for suggestions of where to send it for repairs. I don’t have any repair/service shops in my area either, so I have no idea where I could have to send mine to get repaired.

Probably not. Doesn't matter. Send it to Nikon.

Considering that is a really nice lens, I would think the cost is worth it.

Dang, that sucks.  I would send to Nikon, at least it will get repaired to specs.

You'll have a tough time finding a used 24-70mm for $500-$600.  If you do find one for that price, it's most likely junk.  I'd bet you'll save money just getting your repaired by Nikon.

Good luck.

If you have a local repair facility, I'd get a quote there, then send it into Nikon for estimate.  Get some options.

Curious on the cost you were quoted, did you get a quote yet for this repair?
