Framing up a large landscape photo - use plexiglass?

2 years 2 weeks ago #613628 by Thirsty Beaver
I have a large landscape photo I'm building a frame for.  The dimensions are going to be 63"x19".  I'm wondering if I could get away with plexiglass on this one.  I was thinking though, if I used something like 1/8", would that warp?  Alternatively, if I used thicker plexiglass would that have any sort of distortion to it?

Not sure on this one.  Can you help me out please?

Thank you!

How about just not?

The problem with glass is that it gets very heavy, as you well know. Plexiglass will be fine, and hardly needs to be thick. 1/8" seems perfectly reasonable.

I've got a poster-size print over the fireplace, and I'm not convinced the plexi is worthwhile. But that's just me.

Ultimately, talk to your framing shop.

Are you thinking you should have gone with glass instead?

No, now that I know more about printing, I think that having a matte and no glass is just fine. I've become very fond of Epson watercolor paper for prints, and I think a large print on fine art paper should be approached like a painting. Luster or satin large prints, not so much, at least for a landscape. IMNSHO.
