Wedding payment plan for new clients

5 years 5 months ago #614910 by Mike Ayrouth
Can I ask what you are doing for retainer requested and from there 2nd and 3rd payment schedule?  Speaking of retainer amount, would you say getting half the package price is fair?  Then from there 1/4 of remaining due half way to the date of the wedding with remaining balance  due the week prior?

Just rethinking things.  I appreciate your help!

"Fair" has nothing to do with it. Decide how you want to run your business, and lay it out.

You'll get different answers from different photographes, but 50% at booking and contract signing is not unusual, AFAIK. After that, remainder paid before the event, or you don't show up. Pretty simple strategy. Your 25%/25% plan works, too.

It's up to you.

Yeah, I used to get half before a wedding, the balance upon delivery of prints. Other events varied with the client and job. Just be sure the "I's" are dotted and "Ts" are crossed in the contract....

Why so serious?

For a moment there I read, "I used to get half-baked for a wedding...".

OP - there is no set rules to this.  As already pointed out, it's your business, set up the payment schedule that fits your business and risk level.  IMO, just make sure you are completely paid prior to the job starting.
