70-200mm heavy enough to damage camera mount?

If you are walking around with your strap attached to camera, with a 70-200mm attached to the camera, is that heavy enough to damage the cameras mount?

Yes and no!

Lower end models do not have body integrity features as
top end do but I hold the lens — 70~200 ƒ2.8 FX — rather
than the camera with these babies… a better practice.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

I carry my camera even when using a neck strap. Even a short prime on a body can get swinging, that's where the damage can occur....

Why so serious?

I always carry my 70-200mm by the foot of the camera when it's not on my tripod.

90% of the time I shoot with two cameras, one around the neck and one slinged to the side. The camera hangs from the strap. I use a Rapid strap. When I run I’ll grab the lens.  No problems whatsoever.

(Per Nikon Shooter, I shoot with pro level hardware.)

There are photographs everywhere. It is the call of photographers to see and capture those images.

Hi Gary,

What Black Rapid strap are you using?  Thanks!

Hey Polly.  I don't know.  I just checked it out and there isn't any I.D./name on it.  It is one of the original straps.

I always carry my 70-200mm by the lens foot, just to play it safe.  When walking around that's a lot of weight to be hanging off with out support.

Canon 7D, 18-55mm, 55-250mm, 70-200mm L f/2.8, 100mm and 17-55mm f/2.8

Those lenses have feet for a good reason.  Always, always carry glass like that by the foot.
