Need Help with Resolution/Camera Problem

5 years 3 months ago #624683 by gcvance
Hi,
I am an amateur photographer trying to start a small business focusing mainly on portraiture and I hope to make newborn photographer my forte. Right now I am using a Canon Rebel t6, which was the first camera I got. I shoot in manual mode and use an L-series portrait lens for most of my shooting. My question is, is this high enough quality for making professional images? It might be that I'm paranoid, but it seems that other photographers' work is much more detailed. Is it really worth it to upgrade? And if so, what (Canon) camera will work for me? I am most definitely a newbie and any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

The L-series portrait lens should provide plenty of quality. An 80D would be more pleasant to work with, but no dramatic improvement in image quality. As all L lenses are full frame, you could already consider a full frame 5Diii or 6D. Those will add some quality to the pictures.

I would go full frame also. the 6D is my main camera and Canons lowest priced full frame. It is a full on professional camera. I bought mine used off of craigslist about 3 years ago and have never ever had a single problem. And like mentioned now you get to use your lenses properly with the camera body it was made for.

Here is an example from craigslist where I checked in my area right now. There is 42 of them for sale in my area right now.

The camera is trivial.  Success depends on your ability to make commercially successful images with whatever camera you use.
