What Apps Do You Use?

Photography apps that is! I've seen some threads about single apps but I'd like to see everyone's preferences and why. Here's mine.

1. Sun Surveyor- It's Photographers Ephemeris on steroids. It has the standard Google Maps with the sun and moon overlays, a 3D compass, augmented reality mode, sun/moon rise predictions for your area and any area you pick on the map, Milky Way predictions for night shooters and a ton more. New things are still being added. It's an excellent all in one app and I highly recommend it.

2. WeatherBug Elite- Up to date, hour by hour forecasts with multiple map overlays including a lighting strike tracker.

3. Google Earth- the 3D renderings of the areas I want to shoot are useful for finding new places to shoot. You can also pull up photos that have been taken in areas you're wanting to explore.

4. Clear Outside- Mr. Mark Denney turned me on to this one in his last YouTube video. It's intended for astrophotography, but landscape photographers can use it to help predict cloud cover and thus the chances for an explosive sunset.

5. 500px- For when you're seeking inspiration in a place where you've never shot before.

I use only two:

Capture One for RAW conversion
and Affinity Photo as pixel editor.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

So what is PhotoPills? I've seen it mentioned a few times here.

No apps at all, but I am curious to try those star tracker style apps. I just have to find a spot with no light pollution, which is about 2 hours away from LA.

Wow, I hadn't heard of "Clear Outside"  that is very useful!!  Good tip.

I use a lot of the stuff already listed here in this thread.   In addition to scouring the photo sites for inspiration, I also use:
  • The Photographer's Ephemeris - For Sunset/Sunrise time and location
  • Various exif viewers - Because I'm a snoop and I'm always curious how shots were achieved.  I mostly use a bash script in linux for this.   There are browser extensions and such available as well.
  • I just want to second  Google Earth - I've loved maps ever since I was a kid and Google Earth is like Nirvana to me.
