Carry memory cards in pocket

Dumb question of the day, can you carry your memory cards in your pocket?   I always do and another photographer and I are having a 'discussion' about this practice as we speak.

Can memory cards be damaged by carrying them in your pocket?

Hardly. There is one MAJOR reason why I do carry cards in
my pocket but always in the little plastic box it came with:
dust particles of all nature may get stuck in the contacts ho-
les and make them possibly unusable.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

ADDENDUM

This concerns only CF and XQD cards as SD, SDHC, SDXC
are not affected by dust.

In a plastic case they come with, all the time!  Never any issues.

Wasn't me :)

No, and I'll tell you why:  I can see myself accidentally leaving this in my pocket and washing it with my jeans!

OMG, that's the biggest reason why I wouldn't do it.  I would leave the card in my pocket and end up washing it!

LOL I’m with the mindset of playing it safe, I’ve accidentally washed way too many things over the years. Memory card in my pocket would definitely fall victim.

I hardly keep anything in my pockets let alone a memory card.  So no for me.
