Legalities when shooting in other countries?

When traveling to other countries for a photography job, are you legally supposed to get a business visa?  Even if you are there for a very short period like 2 days?

I've been working in Europe for 30 years and no, never heard of that.

A very different business if you want to reside and work in Europe.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

Another photographer was telling me I have been wrongfully going to Mexico with out a business visa.  I have a client that once every year will fly me to San Jose Cabo to photograph their hotel for their website and marketing material.  He said I'm legally supposed to have a business visa.  I told him I'm there for 2 days only.  Which he said "it doesn't matter".

The google seems to say that residents of the USA (and a number of other listed countries) may travel to Mexico for business trips of less than 30 days with acquiring a visa.

I think you may have been misinformed.

And Canada it's 180 days as a US resident.

Not a legality, but you'll want to make sure your insurance company will cover your gear while out of the states.
