A Sad Day

Glad I got to see it. They will rebuild it but it won't be the same. The stuff in the small chapels can't be replaced. Duplicated, yes, but not replaced.

Some good news, turns out there is much still intact and the French are already working on fundraising to restore it:  www.yahoo.com/news/caused-notre-dame-cat...-fire-104158368.html

Not to mention the items that are/were hidden away in there.

Thankfully "somehow", it is most probably an accident — there
were works in progress — had it been a crime of some sort …

Not to be a conspiracy theorist, but something tells me that if it was a crime, they wouldn't tell us. There is a lot of political tension right now and I am quite sure this could be the tipping point. There have been 6+ churches set on fire here in the States not too long ago. "Unrest" isn't the word anymore, like our government keeps using.

I just heard that someone already donated $100 million towards the rebuild of it.

Wow for $100 million… That should cover the cost of the renovation wouldn’t it?

That is a drop in the bucket for what it will cost to rebuild. The architectural and engineering fees alone will be astronomical. It will take several million just to clean the mess up and clean the stone before they can begin.

It was already undergoing a 170 million restoration when the fire began. Now what will be the cost? Maybe 1 to 2 billion before it's finished?

WHAT?  $1 to 2 billion?  Not a chance.

Pick up a few Pedro's from in front of Home Depot and they'll have that mess cleaned up in a few weeks for under $10,000.

Clarification: I don't subscribe to the notion that some racial epithets are okay and others are not. No matter who or where they come from.

Let me clarify again, it wasn't meant to be racial in anyway.  In terms of racial bs that is often used for certain ethnic groups, saying "Pedro" is not considered one.  I have a low tolerance for racial bs myself, and I wouldn't say something with that intent (my family were immigrants to this country back in the day and plenty of names you can call me).

So if you perceived it that way, my apologies.  I was trying to be funny and I didn't mean to offend or hurt anyones feelings.

Tragic, I hope it wasn't terrorist related.  I've been keeping an eye on the news.  What is amazing is how the country pulled together and raised the $$ so fast.
