500px owner tried claiming copyright on Black Hole photo

Well that's kind of embarrassing!  I guess his attorneys didn't know about this or thought they could hid behind China high walls.  Who knows.  Surprising still.

No one read the article?

The largest stock photo company in China was selling the image on their site and would only offer the image to anyone inquiring about it. They were trying to make a killing from it.

Remember that China really doesn’t have laws. Anyone with power/money does whatever they want. Ah, the fresh smell of socialism

but I get your drift! :)

Light is free… capturing it is not!

Sounds like the US president to me ... socialism requires cooperation and rules, corruption requires a lack of rules and laws.

There are photographs everywhere. It is the call of photographers to see and capture those images.

And, I think even though China has elections the communist party is the ruling party. They still have state TV too I think. Not that surprising that the stock photo company owner expected to be able to get away with doing this (but it made me shake my head!). I hope if people were still using 500px since it got sold that they removed their pictures from the site. At least, I wouldn't want to be using it anymore.

Y'all missed the point because China doesn’t really have laws. Did you all not know that? You’re comparing the US like you dont
