Getting shooting gigs with band promoters?

4 years 11 months ago #641791 by Raymond Z
Any tips on how to get band promoters to hire me to take photos of the bands they manage?  While on that subject, what if you don't know anyone, how are you finding the brand promoters when you don't know anyone?

I guess I could ask the night club manager or venue?

You need to get out and shoot the bands in clubs, and get to know them. Network. And demonstrate your skills. You might be able to turn that into a paying gig, but only if the band is reasonably successful. Most bands aren't going to have much of a budget for photos. But I think you have to be out there, shooting and showing your work (for free) and meeting people so they know who you are.

IMO. I could be wrong.

There is a lot of truth to what Hook said.  Unless you are already successful, with a portfolio of band shots, on speed dial with the managers ... you will have to start on the bottom and work your way up. Connect with the venue(s), share your images for free and make a name.

There are photographs everywhere. It is the call of photographers to see and capture those images.

I use to know someone years ago that shot bands.  He attended the venues, took photos and gave them to the bar venue managers, which led to the connect to the band  managers.  But your work needs to be top level to get attention.

So true, and keep in mind, these guys get hammered with offers.  So you'll want to step up your game.
