Repainting DLSR body

4 years 11 months ago #642776 by Maverick V
I just upgraded my very old D300 to a Nikon D700 that I was able to get for a good price.  The camera has very low use, but the body is scraped up pretty good.

Have any of you tried to repaint a camera body before?  What paint did you use and did you take part and separate the body parts or did you just tape off everything and go that route?

I think that's no paint — as it would not take the wear
and tear — but baked enamel. This can only be cheap
in industrial production and not handmade.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

I would never try to paint a camera body. If you wanted one in good cosmetic condition, why did you not seek one?

The upside: anything you add won't be visible.

Go take photos.

Do it right, it would be more of a pain than it’s worth.

OK, thank you everyone.  Perhaps I'll just get used to it.  When you don't have the cash for new, NEW.  Shiny used-new is the next best thing.

What ever the look, it is the functions that will make the picture!

While most of us are repulsed at the sight of either of these two cameras, there are people out there that are thinking these look good.

OP - I wouldn't paint your camera, it would be so much work to do it right.

On another note, 2 months ago while in Hawaii, my husband had pointed out this woman who had her tripod painted pink.  Surprisingly it looked good with the carbon fiber!

I don't know which is worse.  Both are pretty horrifying though!

OP - just don't do it.

You can always do what a buddy of mine does, he takes a sharpie marker and colors in the scratches.
