Adjusting brightness when calibrating monitor?

4 years 11 months ago #643695 by Joslyn
I picked up Xrite ColorMunki Smile to calibrate my monitor.  when setting things up, should I turn up my brightness all the way up in my monitor?  I usually keep it down around 40%

Does it make any difference where the monitor brightness is at when calibrating color?

When calibrating colours on a monitor, brightness is
a crucial parameter for the quality of the calibration.

Afterwards, it is up to you — mostly depending on the
available ambient light in the space you work in.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

The calibration procedure should measure the brightness and allow you to adjust it to a proper level. At least, that happens with my ColorMunki Display.

In any event, you seem to already understand that you do not want your monitor to be bright.

You need a colorimeter, and perhaps a ColorChecker Passport. You can't eyeball it without a lot of experience.
