Bad habits you have with photography

4 years 11 months ago #644545 by Roger Lang
I think we call can admit to having some bad habits with our photography.  I was watching some video's regarding landscape photography on YouTube a minute ago and this video came into view.  I started watching and realized just how close this hit home.  Very good points covered in this video.  I'm going to share it because I feel this will help others.

I know there are a few points I'm taking away from it.

I'm so guilty at sticking around at one location!

For me, I spend way too much time to post processing sometimes.

I never think photos are good enough.

I'm so guilty at a few of these.  The big one for me is post processing as well.  While I don't do this all the time, there are many times when I will not be content with the post processing I've done.  And I'll keep nit picking at a shot and spend a healthy amount of time fixing something that really didn't need fixing.

That is a good 'habit', (granted thinking isn't considered a habit). There is always room for improvement. Every time I put the viewfinder up to my eye, I am thinking of how to improve upon my shots from the last time I was looking through the viewfinder.

There are photographs everywhere. It is the call of photographers to see and capture those images.

I have a bad habit of drinking beer after a shoot. :beerbang:

Nothing wrong with that! When I come back from shooting, I like to have a glass of wine to unplug and look through my photos.

Beer is refreshing ... wine is to be relished.

I can get carried away with post processing as well.  Depending on the client, and the photo, things can get overboard really fast!

I never get off my comfort zone and look for different angles I could approach a shot from.

I shoot a wide variety of subjects.  What I found to be creatively useful is to use what was successful shooting one genre and adapt it to a different genre or circumstance.

When I go out, I hardly ever change up my lens.  Which started back when I jumped into photography and was fearful of getting dust in my camera from swapping lenses.  Now I understand now that quick swaps are just fine, but I have to force myself.  Otherwise I just swap lenses when I get back in car, or home.  I know!  I know!

I don't clean my sensor as much as I should.  What happens is I put up with having to spot correct in post till I get off my butt and finally clean my sensor.

I have 2 bad habits. One is to shoot too many of the exact same shot. Same settings, same composition, everything. The worst habit is driving by something and saying that would be a cool shot but never stopping to actually shoot the image. When I have gone back to shoot a scene it has always paid off. I need to stop more.
