Do you have your camera with you at all times?

4 years 10 months ago #645137 by Marin Chi
I always seem to miss great shots because I didn't have my camera with me.

I don't want to have all my gear with me at all times, so going to pick up a small messenger bag.  Not sure on which yet, but something I can carry camera body and ideally I'm thinking 1 or 2 lenses and hopefully a few filters.

Just curious on what does your 'day bag' look like in terms of size and what you have in it?

I have 3 bodies, 9 lenses, 3 flashes and location equipment
in the truck 24/7/365. Always ready on call.

No, why would someone want to have their camera with them constantly? That doesn't seem practical, I certainly couldn't do that when working. Why fire off photos all the time? what are you going to do with them all? Seems like they won't be very special. Enjoy life when you can instead of feeling like you have to photograph every interesting thing you see.

You don't mess around!

As for me, 1 body and usually just a 24-70mm and 70-200mm and 1 flash.  Anything else is in my second camera body I bring when planned.

Sometimes I don't have any camera with me, at that moment I use my smartphone for photography.

Honestly speaking, I am not a photography fan so I don't need to kept camera with me all the time but whenever I go for trip and parties with my friends then only carry camera.

I started working for a newspaper as my very first job. It was way back still using film, two cameras, one colour, one b&w. I had my bag with me wherever I went. I saw great news events I photographed outside of my hours. Hardly ever published, because reporters was too lazy to follow up the story.

I was cured from traveling with my equipment. Today my equipment is safer at home than in the car. Crime is high in South Africa. I only pack my cameras when I know there will be time to stop.

The situation is very different here but that's no reason to be
negligent, lazy. The truck has black windows, is not identified,
is locked at all times, and an alarm system — that will alert all
of my crew through an app — will trigger an alarm when con-
tacts are interrupted and/or movements detected… just in case.

Do I ALWAYS have my DSLR on me?  Since Apple bumped up their iPhone game.  No.  I'll just shoot with my iPhone if I'm feeling a shot.  I would say about 65% of the time I have my DSLR with me.  The rest is shot with my iPhone.

Which technically means I always have some sort of phone with me.

I used to, but with cell phones getting better, 50% of the time I don't bring a dedicated camera.  For non-photography-scheduled days, I typically take only one lens.  I used to just grab the X100S while on the way out the door.  I gave that camera away so now I grab the XP2 w/23mm. I don't leave a camera in the car due to heat.

There are photographs everywhere. It is the call of photographers to see and capture those images.

When I’m out with my family, I have either my a6500 or iPhone with me.  My DSLR is with me only when I’m working or going out on a wildlife and nature adventure.

I always have my X100T in my bag.  Since it's so light I forget I have it with me most of the time.

When on vacation - yes.

When I'm at home, no if you don't include an iPhone as camera.

IF you do consider iPhone as camera, then yes.

iPhone is with me all times.  My other cameras are only with me if I know I'm going to need them
