Is photography your most expensive hobby?

Ordered another $2300 lens today and started to consider my investment into photography and this really  takes the lead as the most expensive hobby I've had. 

I'm curious if you have a hobby that taxes your wallet more?

I have two more hobbies that aren't cheap either:
biking and guitars.
Light is free… capturing it is not!

Begun? Certain, I began my hobby with a $27 electronic camera, and also functioned that difficult enough to really get a paying job as a photographer. You can have a pastime with almost any kind of equipment you can obtain your hands on. According to the Internal Revenue Service, it's just a leisure activity if your income does not surpass your expenses. For me, for many years, that implied whenever I made money to do a shoot, I just invested it in much better equipment.

Being an older biker, I am only cruising…
having safety — for me and my gear as ultimate priority.
The years of rage are very, very small in my mirrors! :P

These days photography is my only hobby, so automatically my most expensive hobby at the moment.

In my distant past I found that boating and racing sports cars were not cheap either.

The deepest money pit I know of is show horses, which a friend of mine fell into.

G'day Matt

Being a bit tongue-in-cheek ... my most expensive hobby is my lover! [who's also my wife]. However, being the question it is, then 'yes' photography has been a life-long hobby, and like all persons with a serious hobby, it has had heaps of money devoted to it

Back in film days, there were extra camera bodies dedicated to different film types, or same film / different lenses when shooting weddings or events- it also acquired a darkroom with those associated expenses and enjoyments

These days, now retired and also motorhome travelling for much of each year, it comes down to retirement income about 1/3 of previous salary, and storage space - so a new camera comes along every 3-5 years and it has to do the job for those years. As I have mentioned in other posts, I now use fixed-lens superzoom cameras rather than dSLR + a bevy of lenses and the locked cupboard in the vehicle is about the size of a double shoe box, so a full kit of stuff as was years ago just would not travel with us

Well it  was till  I started getting into car restoration.   Now restoring classics takes the lions share of my $$!

LOL I wish!  I’m into off road trucking and off shore fishing. Both trump what I spend on photography any day of the week!

In addition to photography, my most expensive hobby is online shopping and I spend between $2000-$4000/year on this hobby.

Ask my husband, photography takes the cake and trophy in my house.   Then again, these days it's not so bad.  However I just don't spend money on things other than photography.
