GPS chips in cameras

I was reading some older post on this site regarding GPS tagging.  And this got me thinking about nearly every smart phone has GPS chip in them.  They are small and aren't expensive.  So why aren't the manufactures adding a GPS chip to all their cameras?  I would think tagging exact location a shot was taken would be something most would be interested to have.  When I go into my iPhone and can view photos on a map at the location they  were taken, that is of interest to me.

Do you think this is a feature that masses are interested in?

Still there will be added cost and these chips will suck power from the camera.  Then comes the powering up, which to get a proper lock will take more than a minute.  Phones are always on for the most part so you don't notice the ramp up time.  Keeping that in mind, each time you power off your camera, you will need to go through this each time.

I"m guessing "no". Nikon offers an accessory, but I wouldn't buy it. If I need to tag my photos, I sync the clock on my camera to the phone, use MyTracks to log my position while I'm shooting, and combine the data in Lightroom. Most of the time, I really don't care. I know where I took the photo.

I must be the strange one here.  I would have guessed this feature would have been something many would have been interested in.  I get that you have created a bit of a work around, but that seems so much work for something that could be right there.
