Proper decimal for sound when recording with Rode Video Pro?

When recording what should be the correct decimal reading for good, not peaked out audio?

There is no sure, absolute value, Rick… it is all very relative
and controllable through the gain — keeping an eye on the
peaks. Peaks (red zone) are not bad as long as they are of
very short duration.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

Good question, here's a good explanation on where you want to be.  If you just want to jump to the answer to your question, go to 2:18 in this video:

As you can see, -10 to -12 is the sweet spot, but NOT to jump over 0 at all cost.

Super helpful! Thank you.  Now would you happen to know can you filter out wind noise?  I'm kind of hoping there might be a program that will identify that noise range and zap it.

That's a "no".  Wind noise is too random in time and frequency to be filtered well. Use a dead cat, block the wind, re-record your sound in post, or wait for a calm day.
