Fine art photographer still shoot film?

4 years 10 months ago #647064 by Paris Gal
I was reading a blog last week that spoke about fine art photographers, the elite who had shot with film.  They also referenced that many of the new super elite fine art photographers shooting in film.  Is this true?  I've thought about this blog on and off for about a week and just don't understand why other than for nostalgia would someone still shoot film these days?

Pro grade DSLR or mirrorless cameras crush the film cameras, and if it's a look you want, these can be created in post. So why?

Just as there are many different brushes to paint in very different
ways, one may choose the preferred medium to reach the goals.

Each he's own!

I guess I'm just surprised so many would be using old tools when new and better tools are available.

How much tech should be in a pencil to achieve any
bit of literature, science report or journalism article?

I know a 35 yo woman that only shoots on film with
old Leica and two lenses and goes in the darkroom
once every second week.

I think it is snobbery.  It reminds me of audiophiles who think vinyl records outperform digital recordings.  If you like the sound of vinyl you simply cut the treble a little on your digital system.  Digital has a lot more dynamic range.

That's just because she must REALLY love the process!
