What amount to insure camera when shipping?

When you have sold a camera and you are shipping to someone, are you insuring for price of new?  Price sold?  Or some FMV assigned by some 3rd party like appraiser?

I would insure if for what ever you sold it for.

Agree, what ever you sold it for, would be best price to insure it for.

To make it fair for the shipping company, and easy claim process, I always insure just for the value of the item at the time of the sale.  That way furnishing proof of insured amount will be as simple as forwarding PayPal receipt from buyer.

I've never have had anything damaged or lost where this was needed just to be clear.

:agree:   exactly.  If you try going for new, their adjusters will likely try to come up with some not so flattering value on the lost or damaged gear.

Yup, you know they are looking for reasons to no pay up.

:agree:  what ever the replacement cost is. You mess with that value, and you could regret that decision.
