Vietnam rainforest gear recommendations ?

4 years 10 months ago #647410 by ShutterPal
I've made donations to a number of anti deforestation groups over the years and we have a local company that may be heading to Son Doong cave in Vietnam.  This is the largest cave system in the world at 3 miles and has its own rain forest.  I've been invited to come along to photograph this.  I'm putting some serious thought into it this.

So, I would be there for 3 weeks, no electricity and intermittent sun access.  Which means solar chargers won't work.

Actually the 2 things I'm most concerned about are batteries and moisture.

How would you address both of these  issues with  your photography gear?

Thanks guys

Villain - 50000mAh Portable Charger - Ideal Backup Battery Power Bank for Camping and Long Flights  Long Amazon link :)  That will do the trick for you.  15 charges for your camera.  So, get yourself 2 of these along with 5-10 spare batteries all charged should do you good.   Regarding the moisture, just store your camera in case when not in use and you'll be fine.

Weather resistant cameras and lenses and still use plastic bags for storage and rain covers.  I've been in Vietnam during Monsoons, in general, there is still daylight for solar.  I'd add one or two solar power backup battery to the mix.  Three weeks is a long time.  Generally, there isn't much to see or shoot in the rain. What do the locals recommend?

There are photographs everywhere. It is the call of photographers to see and capture those images.

Isn't that the largest cave on the world?  That sounds awesome!

+1 on the battery packs and bring along solar charger just in case.

One bit of advice I can give you - bring a backpack full of mosquito spray!  They are so bad over there.
