6k and 8k video verses 4k

I'm just looking around at different camera bodies, rumored to be coming camera bodies and specs on which will be the best for video.  I've noticed some, particularly rumored cameras for 2019 suggesting 6k and 8k.  Is there any use for that  now, or does that just mean the 4k from these cameras would be superior?

Let's just say that I wouldn't be buying a camera because it has 6k or 8k.  Not just yet.

I agree with Don Granger. With a 6k and 8k camera comes also a computer that can handle that file size. I have a 4k camera but I rarely use the function since there are more to it than just bigger resolution. Bitrate, color range, dynamic range, ISO, fps, etc. needs to be taken into consideration. If I have a 1080p camera that perform well in those categories I'd choose it over an 8k camera that does not.

OK, well I guess that isn't something that I need to worry about for a little while.

No, it's not something that you should be concerned with, for quite some time.

Frankly, unless you're using a RED with 10-bit video and external capture devices to do pro work, you'll likely never need to worry about it.
