How to remove paint off SD memory card connectors?

4 years 9 months ago #650545 by Adam G
I was painting my garage and was taking photos of the process.  At one point I had my memory card out of my camera and some paint managed to get on the connectors of the card.  Actually my son thought it would be a big help to me if he painted the card.  I didn't see this till the paint had dried.

How can I remove the paint from these connectors?

So many questions I won't ask....

If the paint is latex, it'll will likely not bond with the metal and plastic. Peel off after it "dries", possibly using a toothpick or maybe razor blade to pick at it.

If the paint is oil-based, turpentine will remove it, I think, also because it won't bond.

The card should be liquid-proof, so the goal is to reveal the contacts to get the data off. Then toss the card.

I would recommend to let it dry completely and to use
small tools to flake it off. There should be no problems.

I would not use solvents unless properly tested before.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

Latex, ok will make sure it's completely dry and give that a shot.  Had to make sure, I have photos on the card and of course don't want to harm the card or photos.

Thanks guys.

G'day Adam

Like Gary - I won't ask too many questions either :)

The above comments are good ones too ... but if you want an excellent non-destructive solvent, try Eucalyptus Oil ~ 100% natural and an excellent source for dissolving just about all adhesives and maybe in this case, your paint!

Hope this helps

Qtips should have worked great with turpentine.  Did you get it removed?
