Removing scratch from acrylic print

4 years 9 months ago #650554 by Silver Fox
We just took out an old acrylic print from storage and there is a sizable scratch in the finish, would you happen to know if scratches in acrylic can be repaired or filled?

It's about 2" long and 1/16" thick.

Acrylic is heat sensitive. The scratch is more apparent
because its edges are sharp. I use a mini gas torch to
very locally and carefully apply heat — slowly at first. I
admit that my purpose is to bend the acrylic though.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

I would have a professional do this.  If you apply to much heat, you stand chance of cooking the print below which could discolor it.

I positively agree with that too, have a professional fix that.  In case they screw it up, they have to cover the cost repair or replacement.

Nope, stay away from the heat, that is a good way to get those colors all messed. Acrylic has a melting point of 320F which by that point would mess up your print.
