Can anyone identifying this surface?

Hello! Does anyone know what surface is used for these shots? Is it just black granite? I know it's not plexi, as it has a nice softness to the reflection. Any help would be much appreciated.

Also, in general, do you have any suggestions for black surfaces other than black paper and black plexi?

Thanks so much!

Looks like a normal counter top where clumsy
blur was applied to the reflection of 1 and 2.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

That looks, to my eye, like black wood with a satiny finish. Which would be somewhat reflective, but contains lots of imperfections, including the odd white smearing in the second shot.

The reason I think the images are genuine is that I see this sort of reflection all the time in my ballet shots, as marley exhibits very similar characteristics.

Suggest: take a friend to a furniture store, and have them hold a cell phone on table while you back up and see how it reflects. This will help you educate yourself on what different finishes will do to light.

Finally: if you would like to learn more, I suggest "Light: Science and Magic" as a thorough, and thoroughly good, reference on the subject.

It could be a black satin finish counter top, with a gradient blur applied as well.  Tough to be certain, but that's my guess.

Definitely there is a digital blur added to this.  I wouldn't be surprised its just a black counter top.  It is a little porous, so I'd bet  it's a counter top made from Formica or similar.
