Best glacier locations in Alaska or Canada?

4 years 8 months ago #655749 by Chris Curran
Actually are there any decent glacier locations on the mainland U.S.?  I assume you need to head to Alaska or Canada somewhere.   Where are some good spots to check out?  I would love to travel to Greenland, but that looks to remote and tough to get to these locations.  I was just reading an article about global warming and how things are melting.  It happens to be one of these items I would like to take a photo of one day.  Better take one sooner or later seeing these things are apparently all melting.

Hence my question.

If glaciers go on melting like that, my choice would
be the Ellesmere Islands and the north of Baffin Bay.

We took a tour in '89, and while sightseeing between Banff and Jasper we were able to ride up onto a glacier and walk around. It was quite amazing.

So: Canadian Rockies. At least, used to be.

So that is close to Greenland, how accessible is this place to get to?

I spent, all together, some 27 months up north as scientific
photographer for different university research projects.

But would want an answers in a touristic endeavour and this
is not even close to the conditions I've known on a Canadian
research vessel. I can tell about the place but not how to tra-
vel there… sorry Chris!

Only one I was going to say has been mentioned already - Banff, it's one of the most beautiful places on this Earth.
