Will a film development lab correct exposure if off?

4 years 7 months ago #657412 by Tristan R
I'm dusting off my old film stuff.  Out of curiosity, if you drop off film and the exposure is off, will they automatically correct the exposure?

Or is that something that needs to be specified at drop-off?

It is possible to compensate exposure through time but,
to know how much time, the lab will need to know the
exposure "off value" in advance!

Light is free… capturing it is not!

It's not that the lab corrects the exposure since that's determined by metering and setting shutter speed and aperture before the shutter's released. Adjustments in development are made automatically by the machine used. They used to do that manually. I don't know when they run film thru the machine if they can override auto settings to set it manually or not.

If the exposure is off the negatives most likely will still be too thin (light) or too dense (dark). If the negs are scanned corrections could be made to the scanned images digitally. It would probably depend on how much the exposure was off how much adjustment could be done to get a good quality image.

No, never had anyone change my film back in the day.  After all, they wouldn't know if the exposure was intentional unless you asked.  So I assume.

They might adjust the prints, but unless you specify, the film will be processed per formula.....

Why so serious?
