Waterfall shooting advice/tips?

4 years 7 months ago #657991 by 909Randy
I'm on a mission to find some waterfalls.  Anywhere I go around here will need to be a little bit of a drive.  Looking for any tips/advice that could be helpful.  I've not shot waterfalls before at all.  I'll be playing around with a 3 and 6 stop ND, not sure if my polarized filter will do anything, but I'll try that too.

Thanks for any tips you can share.  It's appreciated!

Yes, you want a CPL. Yes, you want choices of ND filter strength to try different exposure durations. Note that you can also play with aperture and ISO, depending upon what filter you're using.

Hint: most (falling) water that appears smooth yet with movement is due to an exposure duration of 1/2 to 1 second. It only takes several seconds to really even the water out.

As for focal length, you want to be ready for anything from wide to very long. Nothing wrong with tiny landscapes.
