How to tell if used camera is grey market/international model?

Seriously?  Couldn't they just look things up via the serial number?

Canon 7D w/grip, Canon 40D, Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS L Canon MPE 65mm f2.8 macro; Sigma 70-300mm f2.8; Sigma 150mm f2.8 macro; Sigma 8-16mm f4.5-5.6

Sure but understand that the purchaser of a gray market product has exactly the same warranty.  It just can't be used in the U.S.  It requires sending the camera to Japan or any number of other countries for repair.  The one time I had to make a warranty claim on a Nikon product, I sent an F5 camera body to Japan for repair.  It returned 3 weeks later fit as a fiddle.

It is possible that Nikon reimburses warranty repairs made by Nikon USA in the same manner that an auto manufacturer reimburses the dealer.  I simply don't know.

The unwillingness to do repairs in the U.S. by Nikon USA for a fee is very poor customer service.  It makes the manufacturer look bad in my view.

Don't do it, you'll regret buying international model.  And if you decide to one day sell what ever it is, people don't want to buy international grey market stuff
