Question about hiring another photographer for large wedding

4 years 6 months ago #659303 by Inez Villarin
If I hire and paying the other photographer, do I own the rights to the photos?

If not, do you recommend a contract?  If so, I don't suppose there is a boiler plate one floating around free online?

You do own the photos in the case you describe, and make sure you provide the memory cards at least....but a contract is still necessary.....

Why so serious?

Right: if someone is hired to do a specific job with specific purpose and possibly specific deliverable, then it becomes a "work for hire".

You absolutely need to clarify this up front with your second. They need to understand what they're doing, and what they're giving up, and it really needs to be on paper, signed.

That said, it is perfectly reasonable to license the images back to them for their portfolio/self-promotion. No stock. But they should be able to show off their own work. Again this should be written down.

Finally: no one leaves the venue until you get back the media cards that you supplied. Again, written down. Everything is written down.
