Low profile rectangle softbox

4 years 6 months ago #661269 by Kenta
Does anyone make a low profile softbox that can fit both flash heads and larger GoDox lights?  No more than 12" deep and 3'x2' in size.  Let me know please.

I picked up a shallow one from Westcott, but it's 3' x 4'. They sell different rings for different mount systems.

FWIW, 2 x 3 is really quite small for a shallow softbox. Shallow ones can have hotspots, so larger is better.

How have you decided that it must be only so large? Depth I get, but width and height?

Shallow soft boxes are not so commonly use because
of the multiple draw backs with the format.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

Should be this one, but I'm not at home so can't verify.

Recommend doing some googling to understand the possible pitfalls. I don't see a horrible hotspot with mine, so I'm happy. But I may not have had it close enough to be a problem. It seems to do the job.

That's a good unit, but there shouldn't be any problems when aware of the power down feature of a speedlight, no?

Why so serious?

The power level won't change how the light is diffused, only how much of it.  As I understand it, complaints about shallow softboxes have to do with the diffusion within the box.  The shallow one has a hotter center (perhaps by design?) than a deeper version, which some may not like. That one, at a distance of 4-5 feet, didn't give me any real problems.
