How much of a cameras autofocus system is body vs lens?

I hope this makes sense, when you have camera and a lens (any).  Which is plays a larger roll in the camera and lens combos ability to autofocus onto something?

The body plays a bigger part.

Why so serious?

Some cameras have focusing motors in the body and some do not.  You need to be specific.

Huh?  If I knew what did what, I wouldn't have posted the question.  I can't be specific because I don't know the answer.  Thank you.

The answer to question depends on the camera.  Without knowing which camera it is impossible to answer.  Why?  Because some camera bodies have focusing motors and some do not.  I don't know how to make it any more clear.  Sorry.

Both her bodies listed have focusing motors, that's why I said the bodies......Now I am too confused by the question....

G'day Cathy

To the best of my knowledge ALL focusing takes 2 steps ...... a) the camera body receiving the image determines the clarity / sharpness of the image, and then b) electronically alerts the lens to move in or out to bring that sharpness to its best result

Most dSLR bodies have a half-silvered mirror, where most of the image is bounced upwards to the viewfinder, and some is bounced down to the focussing sensors. The sensors can quickly determine the "fuzziness" factor and signal the lens to move into action.

There is a bit more to it but hopefully this will help a little bit

All the lens does is move the elements where the camera tells it to. Focus motor in the body or not, the camera is the most important piece of the focusing puzzle.
