Have you had to sue a client for non payment?

A good friend of mine did a corporate retreat 6 months ago.  The client apparently stiffed him on the final payment, which also represented about 80% of the job.  He’s going through courts now and it’s a drag from what I’m hearing.  More reason to get paid in FULL before you start!

Corporate engagements don't always work that way. They can be net-30, or even net-90. One doesn't always have the luxury of getting paid before delivering the product.

Assuming a valid, signed contract, they'll lose in court. But your friend will still have to collect.

Hope it works out for them.

I was thinking the same thing, that corporate/business/advertising etc. work is billed differently. I don't think it's unusual to not have full payment in 6 months. Might depend on the contract.

I would suggest professional resources; try pro photographers organizations like asmp.org or PPA.

I nearly had a client sue me once, a few decades ago. I wouldn't release their wedding package until I got paid and they weren't happy. They came to their collective senses in time....

Why so serious?

I've had a slow pay a few years ago, luckily he did pay and it kept me from having to pursue further actions.  I know another photographer who didn't get paid, then he found out that going after the person would have cost more than what was actually owed.
