Dead cat wind screen for internal mic on camera bodies?

4 years 4 months ago #664463 by Chris Banner
I know the mics in our camera bodies is a last resort to use at times.  I just got back from another situation where my Rode mic was home and I needed to record some video outdoors and of course my audio got butchered from the wind.  Is there a dead cat wind screens that can somehow mount on the camera body over the mic when needed and removed when not in use?  And not be an eye sore?

I'll just go with "no". Doesn't seem physically possible.

That said, why would you have had that wind screen when you didn't have the Röde?

There is none available that I know of, but you could make one from a cotton ball and some double sided tape to hold it temporarily in place. The fuzz of the cotton ball will reduce the wind noise just like the dead cat fur. Just be careful not to cover the mic hole with the tape.

I personally would rather have no audio at all than use the mic in my camera. It's that bad, wind or no wind.

I tried something like this a year ago, the tape didn't hold.

I think that's just hysterical. I don't know why, but it reminds of a great aunt with a mole on her chin, from which protrudes a long black hair.  :pinch:
