To Catch a Thief

4 years 4 months ago #667974 by Srogers
Dear Members,

I’m asking for some assistance here.  This past year I had a thief drive onto my property and steal some items out of my shed when I wasn’t home.  I did catch the guy on one of my trail cams, but the night vision on the camera whited-out his license plate to where it is not readable.  I don’t have the software, tools, or know-how for trying to get the plate number to be revealed.  It may not even been possible, but I was hoping someone on the site could, at least, try and help me out.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I’m attaching three of several identical photos of the thief’s truck and the whited-out license plate.  Thank you for any help.

There is no recoverable information in those blown-out areas. Sorry, but I don't think any forensics can help here.

Yep, and people use reflective material on their plate covers to avoid camera detection too.  But in this case, all the information is toast here.  Sorry.

Very unfortunate, sorry for your circumstances.  But there is no way that will be recovered.

Wasn't there an article a few weeks that went in about Germans coming up with some crazy tech that could recover lost pixels even when blown out?
