When you buy a camera used, will the warrantee ever transferred to the new owner?

No, unless it hasn't been registered and the receipt doesn't have their name on it. This would be a very rare set of circumstances.

Yup....

Why so serious?

One should assume that a warranty is valid for the original purchaser, and is not transferable. Exceptions exist, but are quite rare.

What is odd is if you look at many ads on Craigslist, how many people who list a camera or lens with XX months of warranty left.  :toetap:

You can pick up extended warranty on most items.  That might be worth looking into, but watch out, the price could get $$$

On the back of the Nikon Warranty card, it is stated explicitly that it is not transferable, and applies only to the original purchase. But, if a used camera offered for sale has a Nikon warranty card, there is some assurance it is not gray market, and can be repaired at an authorized service provider.

But if someone hasn't registered their camera or lens, and then sell it.  Can't the new owner register the item and pick up the remaining warranty?

Yes, that was stated above. If the warranty wasn't registered by the original purchaser, it can be registered by the second. One would need the original purchase date (on or abouts, I think?) so as to look legit.

Nikon states that the physical receipt for the purchase is required, not just the date. In any case, claiming the warranty as a resale buyer is fraudulent, on its face. My interest in knowing there was a US warranty is to ensure I can have the camera repaired by an authorized service provider, if necesssary

Got it, interesting.

Which of the main camera manufactures has the better warranty anyway?
